In terms of the PSA message as teachers, our Project Solution page says, "Students will create PSAs for broadcast to their school and community sharing how they can effect positive change in the environment around them." - that is a pretty strong message that will give us a variety of PSAs, and I like it!! - TW

In terms of the PSA message as students, our own student example could encourage everyone to recycle their own school recyclables - focusing on plastics at lunch, papers in the classroom, etc. We could, in 60 short seconds, take our audience through the storyline we, as students, experienced, building empathy and understanding from our student peers... and then calling them to action to effect change in the environment.

Below is a sketch/script for our PSA, ready for the editing...

1. Intro and Music Class "Conservation" "This year in middle school, four of our teachers took us on the journey of our green footprint... We first learned of the idea of conservation in music class, when Mr. Williamson introduced us the Paper vs. Plastic debate. While both paper and plastic are recyclable, the problem is not everyone does it."

2. Computers and "Pollution" "Then in Computers and Keyboarding, Mrs. Marsh focused on how much we each emit as individuals. We learned about how much paper the school uses, through a daily trash blogging activity. We also discovered ways to reduce our waste."

[Images may include pics/video of paper trash, trash dumping, and student paper recycling.]

3. Science and "Preservation" "After we learned just how much trash we really are responsible for, Mr. Bradley had us explore ways we could preserve our enviroinment through reducing. We created our own "green" cleaning solutions, as a small contribution towards reducing the amount of toxins added to the environment. By preserving our environment we are one step closer to a greener tomorrow."

[Images may include pics/video of "green" cleaning solution project, and its' effect on less waste.]

4. Art and "Go Green" "The question is, if re-using and recycling are the way to go, why doesn't everyone do it? Well, that is a question we actually discussed in Art class with Mrs. Burnett. We talked and learned about habits and routines, and we came to understand how we can each control change in our own "green identity."

5. The PSA's Call to Action... "So here is our challenge to you, the students of PBLG2 Middle School... (speaking to the student audience watching PSA) If each of you places every plastic bottle or container in a recycling box, and place every piece of paper you don't need into the recycling bin in each classroom, we can drastically reduce the waste of tomorrow. Increasing our green footprint begins with you!!
